Viridian En Plein Air Workshops
with Katherine Downey Miller
Katherine Downey Miller and Susan Nalband have created Viridian Workshop Retreats to welcome a small group of 6-8 like minded artists, creating a warm and encouraging environment for all skill levels.
Whether you’re just beginning your creative journey or have years of experience, you’ll leave with new techniques, lasting friendships, and a beautiful portfolio of fresh work.

You're invited to join Katherine Downey Miller
for an Inspiring Landscape Art Retreat in Maine
June 22 - 25, 2026
This workshop is now FULL

Immerse yourself in the luscious Maine landscape with artist Katherine Downey Miller, where you’ll create a personal collection of fresh paintings inspired by the region’s verdant landscape, light and atmosphere in an early summer pallet.
Under Katherine’s guidance, you’ll have the opportunity to discover and visit your own voice in a series of en plein air paintings in your preferred painting medium.
All good abstraction comes from reality. Using the lines of the land to access the language of abstraction, we will learn about dynamic composition, foundation building blocks of landscape painting and loosen up to find simple compelling landscapes.

This artist-led painting retreat is based in the charming town of Harrison, Maine as a jumping off point for explorations into nearby towns and en plein air painting locations.
Known as a melting pot of outdoor endeavors and creative enclaves, with vistas of fields, farms, forests, mountains and lakes, the area is a worthy source of inspiration. Galleries, cafes and restaurants, locally owned bookstores, and antique shops dot the small towns in this part of Maine an hour from Portland.
When you're not painting, take time to explore local lakes and towns, meet talented artists and craftspeople, and immerse yourself in the rich atmosphere of creative Maine that has inspired generations of artists and writers.
